The 5th International Meeting of Friends of Cast Iron

The 5th International Meeting of Friends of Cast Iron
13-16 September 2017.

The Mala Panew Valley Association of Ozimek – organizer of the 5th International Meeting of Friends of Cast Iron which will be held on 14,15 and 16 September 2017 in Ozimek – cordially invites you to participate in the conference, as well as the celebration of the 3rd Day of the Bridge and the Cast Iron.
The International Meeting of Friends of Cast Iron gather experts, scientists, collectors, artists and museologists from numerous countries of Europe (among others.: England, Austria, Czech Republic, France, Holland, Germany, Poland, Russia, Italy) and the US, all of whom pay special attention to the artistic cast iron and its history. Conference meetings take place every other year and show the history, collections and achievements in the range of renovation, as well as academic attainment relating both to the past and the presence of artistic cast iron molding. The first conference, which took place in Hanns Schell Collection Museum of Graz (Austria) in 2009, resulted from the previous Polish-German project of 2006 organized to present the collections and scientific achievements of the artistic cast iron museums of Berlin, Gliwice and Sayn near Koblenz. This was when the decision was made that it would be purposeful to organize meetings on regular basis. The conferences to follow were held: in 2011, in Sayn near Koblenz (Germany, Rheinisches Eisenkunstguss-Museum), in 2013 – Berlin (Stadtmuseum Berlin) and in 2015 in Coalbrookdale (Iron Bridge Museum) – the cradle of English and world modern metallurgy. Our Association has been actively participating in these conferences since 2013. It was at the Coalbrookdale (England) conference that its council decided to admit our Association the task of organizing the 2017 conference in Ozimek.
The Association of the Mala Panew Valley and the Mala Panew Valley Metallurgy Museum ( which is led by the Association) has been working on the preparation for the conference for some months now. We hope that not only will it show our monuments, history and industrial collections preserved in Silesia, but also present achievements in the area of monument renovation (e.g. renovation of the historic suspension bridge of Ozimek, carried out according to the plan and supervised by the Opole University of Technology). The conference may also bring about undertaking scientific and research cooperation within the above mentioned fields between Polish universities and museums and their respective partners abroad. The conference will also create a chance to show our guests the tourist attractions and to promote our country, especially Opole Silesia.
The patronage over the conference was taken by: Provincial Office of Opole, Opole University, Opole University of Technology, County Office of Opole, the City and Municipal Office of Ozimek.
